{January 14, 2011}   The spectacle of gladiatorial combat

An account by Roman philosopher Seneca on a gladiator contest. Written during the reign of Emperor Caligula (37 to 41 CE), he complains in a letter to a friend that the contest is boring and not worthy of the time of an educated man.
