The Nanking Massacre also known as the ‘Rape of Nanking’ occurred when the Imperial Japanese Army captured the city in late 1937 during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Hundreds of thousands of disarmed soldiers and civilians are believed to have been murdered and up to eighty thousand women are said to have been raped. A New York Times reporter, F. Tillman, was present at the time of the Nanking Massacre and reported on it in his article, ‘All Captives Slain’ December 18, 1937.
